White dancer-shaped jade pei-pendant |
The exhibits displayed in this hall are the cream of jade articles produced during the nearly 3000 years from the primitive society all the way down to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It expresses the rich implications of Central China's jade culture. Of all the exhibits, those of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties account for 70 percent. These ancient jade articles are indeed another wonder of the bronze age. The exhibits here, according to their uses, are roughly classified into four categories, namely ritual jade, ornamental jade, burial jade and jade for enjoyment. Among the exhibits, the jade spade of the Neolithic age, the jade weapons of the Shang Dynasty, the group jade-pendants and various jade ornaments of the Eastern and Western Zhou Dynasties, the jade clothes sewn with gold thread unearthed from the tomb of King Liang of the Han Dynasty etc., all express the double implication of ancient jade articles both as the cream of nature and as the symbol of humanism. |
