Excavation of the Warring State and Han Tombs

at the Foot of Mang Mountain (Mangshan) in Luoyang

In May of 1997, the Second Archaeological Team of Luoyang Municipality unearthed 210 tombs at the foot of Mang Mountain (Mangshan) during a contact archaeological program. The tombs are of the Warring State and Han Dynasties, and more than 300 pieces of grave goods were discovered, which including pottery and bronze vessels. The different types of the tombs, the arrangements of the corpses and the combination of the grave materials provide new important data for the study of the funeral customs in the Luoyang area during the transiting period from Warring State to the Qin and Han Dynasties.

The Chronology of the Xia Dynasty: Commemorating the 40th anniversaries of the First Excavation in Erlitou Site

By a comparing research on the archaeological data of Henan Longshan Culture, Erlitou and Yanshi Shang Walled city sites, this article get the conclusion that Xia Dynasty began in the late phase of Henan Longshan Culture and ended at the third stage of Erlitou Culture. Erlitou site is the capital of the Late Xia Dynasty and the capital was abandoned at the third stage of Erlitou Culture.

The Historic Context Of Water-Control Project Of Dayu: Nob.1 Of A Series

Investigation On The Legend Ear Of Ancient Chinese History

The Dayu's water-control project was generally thought as a legend instead of historic fact. By the data of uranology, the author firstly demonstrates that there were quite a lot of natural disasters about 4000 years ago caused by the nine planets in the solar system moved into one line, and among these disasters, floodwater was the most serious one. Secondly, with the new discoveries of the geographic and archaeological works, the author demonstrates that the canal of the Yellow rive was changed by the floodwater, and as a inverse function it pricked up the influence of the floodwater again. Finally, the author provide some historic-graphic data to support his opinion of the change of the Yellow river's canal.

The Four Spirit Animals Of The West And Esat Han Dynasty

This article discusses several important problems on the SiLing (four sprit animals) of the Han Dynasty. Firstly, to analyze why the SiLing didn't appear among the cultural relics until the early Western Han; Secondly, to generalize the different characteristic features in four central regions during the West and East Han Dynasties; Thirdly, to point out the direction of the development of the SiLing after the Eastern Han.

Analysis of the characters found in the No. 2 tomb

at Baoan Mountain in Yongcheng

A large number of characters scored on stone or written with red ink were found in the No. 2 tomb at Baoan Mountain in Yongcheng. The quantity and the contents of the characters are very rich and is very few in archaeology of West Han Dynasty in the recent years. They are very important for the study of the funeral system, architecture, calends, calligraphy and the development of Chinese characters.

Porcelain Vessels Of The Marbled Texture And Marbled Glaze

By investigating the kiln sites and inspecting the vessels handed down from the ancient times, this article inquires into the origin, skills, variety, locations of production, times of porcelain of the marbled texture and marbled glaze, and also reviews on the interrelation between the twos. The author thinks that the central plains area is the major production location of the two kinds of porcelain vessels. Even the quantity of the two found in the central plain area are very few, but their beautiful craft works show that the central plain occupied a very important position in porcelain production in ancient China.

Prehistoric Walled Sites And The Ancient Civilization of China

The Chinese prehistoric walled sites were mainly located in the valley of the Yellow River and the Yangzi River. Quite a lot of compact community sites and some small walled sites distributed around these bigger prehistoric walled sites, and they formed many different local state civilizations all together. After long-term period of war, punitive expedition and annexation, three large tribe groups named Huaxia、Dongyi、Miaoman emerged gradually. The Xia Dynasty began to be set up in the late period of the Longshan Culture(about 4000 years ago), which stand for a higher kingdom civilization in the central plains.

Preliminary Research On Archaeology Of Community Sites

Archaeology of community sites inspects the whole community site as the basic unit of research. Its aim is to probe into the social structure, interrelationships between different social communities and their change along the time and space dimensions. So archaeology of community sites should not just investigate single community site, but it also should concern with the whole group of community sites in the same time span or the same culture, and look into the changing trajectory of community sites in different stages of the same culture or different cultures. By this, archaeologists can learn the development of the social groups and inspect the change of history and societies.

On The Functions Of The Shang Walled Sites At Zhengzhou And Yanshi

And The Boundary Between Xia And Shang

Based on the new data of archaeological excavation combined with historiography, the author thinks that the Shang walled site at Zhengzhou is the Bo Capital of early Shang Dynasty, and the walled site at Yanshi is an important military town of the same period. The boundary between the Xia and Shang Dynasties should be set at the boundary between the first and second stages of Erligang Shang Culture, and the building of Shang walled site at Zhengzhou is the most important dividing point.

The Origin And Development Of The Combination Of Jade Pendants

Based on the sets of jade pendants unearthed from the tombs, the article emphatically analyses and induces the question of the combination of jade pendants of the Zhou period, as well as compares and discusses its origin and development so that readers have a overall cognition to the combination of jade pendants.
