Tang Dynasty( A.D.618-907)

Unearthed at Luoyang, Henan

Horse height: 72cm

Groom height: 63cm

Sancai is a kind of lead-glazed pottery fired at low temperature. It is glazed with such colours as yellow, white, green, brown and blue, etc. The Sancai products of the Tang Dynasty are mostly human figures, horses and camels. The groom leading the horse wears a tall hat and a robe with lapels. These foreign articles of clothing and his deep-set eyes and prominent nose suggests that he is not of Han Chinese ethnic stock.
