Watchtower of the Han Dynasty were buildings for people to climb to the top storey to enjoy a grand view far away. Most of them are square in shape. The distance between storeys are relatively high . On every storey there are doors, platforms, balustrades etc. People could look far away from inside. On some watchtowers there are often figurines of warriors with weapons. This shows that some watchtowers at that time also served as guarding or defending fortresses.
