The pitcher and lavabo used to form a part of a multi-piece ensemble with a unified decoration of stars and an ornamental border along the rims and a lambrequin where the handle is attached to the body. The decorative scheme combines elements of Neoclassicism (stars) and Late Rococo (lambrequin).

Diamond-point engraving and stippling were introduced in the Netherlands in the 17th century. Executed on imported English lead glass, these delicate designs were created by master engravers who were active in The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam in the 18th century.
