The decoration on this vase from the 1880s reflects the aesthetics of the Far East that influenced Western arts and crafts through Europe’s intensive commercial contacts with China and Japan. Painted in relief on coloured glass, prunus flowers combined with herons or cranes were popular designs during this period.

The tall, elegant ewer decorated with band, palmette and rosette motifs in Renaissance Revival style one of a multi-piece set created after a design by Ludwig Lobmeyr (1829–1917). A bottle with the same design is on view in the Vienna Glass Museum (Lobmeyr) located on K?rtnestrasse 26 in the centre of Vienna.
