Stele of Yuan An

4th year of Yongyuan's reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty£¨A.D.92£©

Unearthed at Yanshi County, Henan Province

Height: 139cm

Width: 73cm

Thickness: 21cm

The inscription on the stele records the biographical sketch of Yuan An, who was an official of the Eastern Han Dynasty. The calligraphy on this tablet of Yuan An is a variation based on the seal characters of the Qin Dynasty. Influenced by the clerical script of the Han Dynasty, it changed the roundish style into a somewhat squarish style, which make the characters look free and relaxed and squarish in a round framework.
