Two vases
Bohemia, probably Rindskopf and Sons, Teplice (Teplitz) or Riedel, Polubny (Polaun), early 20th century
Red hyalith glass, cut; H. 29 cm
Inv. no. 30 390/1, 2
Purchased in 1948 at the Zd. Je?ábek Auction, Prague
In the final decades of the 19th century, Bohemia’s glassworks in introduced marbleized opaque and cut glass. The glasshouse of Josef Rindskopf’s sons in Teplitz presented the Diluvium-Glass product line – a red hyalith glass reminiscent of Buquoy Biedermeier glass from the first half of the 19th century. A similar line was produced by Josef Riedl in Polubny (Polaun) in the Jizerské Mountains. The shapes of these two counterpart vases were clearly inspired by Oriental porcelainware.
