Abstract:Two large burials of the Chu state were unearthed at Jiuliandun in 2002. Although burial No.1
was looted, musical instruments were comparatively complete. Twenty-four sets of musical instruments were
found, which were made from diverse materials, including bronze, stone, leather, silk, calabash, bamboo, and
wood. The tomb occupants of burial No.1 and No.2 were a couple. The musical instruments unearthed from
the two burials are of the largest number and the most complete among all Chu burials, which contribute
greatly to the study of the Chu burial rites and musical instruments before the Qin dynasty.
