Hail the Heroes’Era------Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms Exhibition

On the evening of Mar.31 2010, the opening ceremony was held at the entrance hall in Henan Museum, which marks the official opening of the highly expected exhibition to the public. Hosted by Henan Museum, sponsored by the State Cultural Relics Exchange Center (SCREC), the exhibition attracted numerous mess media to the opening ceremony. Ms.Chen Ailan, Director of Henan Cultural Heritage Administration Bureau, other government officials, the heads of academic institutions, and Mr. Yang Yang, secretary of the (SCREC), Mr.Zhang Wenjun, curator of Henan Museum, cut the ribbons for the ceremony.

To commemorate the 30 anniversary of the conclusion of the "Sino-Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty”, the government bodies of the diplomacy, culture, heritage and other departments from the two countries, jointly organized such cultural exchange activities. During May 3nd.2008 to Mar.15 2009, the exhibition had been touring in several cities in Japan, such as Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kobe, Fukuoka, Kagawa, Nagoya, and etc. Thanks to the popular of the well known historical novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms" in Japan, the exhibition attracted as much as one million visitors, breaking the record of visitors of all the Chinese antique exhibitions in Japan. After returning to China, it created a sensation in several other cities.

To prepare for the exhibition, the experts from China and Japan had gone to 34 Museums in 11 provinces, spending 3 years in filtering the exhibits from as many as 1,000 pieces of relics, mostly from “three Kingdoms” period, and including 50 pieces of the state-class, first-grade antique. Some of them are rarely showed to the public in the ordinary exhibitions, they can only be seen on the textbooks or professional journals, for example, the repeating crossbow of the “Three Kingdoms” ages, which can shoot 10 times successively, and internationally it was regarded as a representive masterpiece in China's cold steel ages.

    

Because of the popularity of the well-known historical novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” at home and broad, it is believed that the exhibition will trigger the great curiosity among the mass about the historical facts, saga, historical novel. And a great number of visitors are expected to come to see the treasures of “Three Kingdoms”.

During the exhibition, Henan Museum will invite some well known scholars to present lectures to the audience. The exhibition will last to around May 15, 2010.
